Syensqo announced its first One Planet target for Nature, focusing on water stewardship. This milestone comes nine months into the company’s journey, reflecting its unwavering commitment to the sustainability of its operations.

Syensqo is dedicated to achieving a 20% average reduction in Fresh Water Intake by 2030 compared to 2021 at sites exposed to water availability challenges. This ambitious goal translates to a reduction of more than 7 million cubic meters of fresh water intake. To meet this new goal and mitigate impact on water quality, the company will concentrate efforts on 15 key sites.

“Water-related issues are a critical component of climate change, impacting floods, sea levels, ice fields, wildfires, and droughts. With over 2 billion people lacking access to clean water and only 0.5% of Earth’s water being usable freshwater, sustainable water management is essential. Water quality is equally important for health and ecosystem preservation. By addressing water scarcity and strengthening water effluent management, Syensqo aims to contribute to climate change mitigation and build societal and ecosystem resilience”, said Titta Rosvall-Puplett, Syensqo’s Chief Sustainability Officer.

Syensqo will equip the 15 targeted sites with comprehensive water stewardship plans. These plans will address both water quantity and quality-related risks and impacts while aligning with the company’s growth ambitions.

Syensqo has already made significant strides, achieving a 12 Mm³ decrease in fresh water intake in 2023 compared to 2021
